Frequently asked questions

The questions that come up most often.

What is Tapt?
Tapt is a price comparator for Magic: The Gathering cards, covering Quebec game stores plus a good choice of stores elsewhere in Canada. You type a card name, Tapt reads the stores' pages while you wait, and shows you where it is cheapest, with stock, condition, finish and printing. It is an independent tool made in Quebec, free, that sells nothing.
What can I do on Tapt besides comparing a card?
Seven things, all free. Compare a card at local stores. Compare a whole deck and see where to buy it. Build your decks in the editor, with statistics, card roles and the Commander bracket marker. Keep your collection and track what it is worth. Watch the price of a card and get notified when it drops. Explore every printing and every card with its image. Read the official rules. There is also a community section with public decks, the most played cards and commanders, and the preconstructed Commander decks.
Can Tapt compare a whole deck?
Yes. You paste your decklist, or open a deck you built on Tapt, and the site looks up each card at the stores you chose. You see the total price per store, what is missing at one and found at another, and shipping costs are taken into account in your shopping list.
Is Tapt free?
Yes, entirely. No subscription, no paid version, and you do not even need an account to compare. The account only serves to keep your favorite stores, your decks, your collection and your price tracking.
Are the prices up to date?
Each comparison reads the stores' pages at the moment you launch it. The result is kept for two minutes in memory so as not to hammer the sites if you run the same card again right away.
Which stores are covered?
The featured Quebec game stores, plus a good choice of stores elsewhere in Canada. The full list opens in the left panel of the Comparator, where you choose which ones to query. The status of each shows live next to its name during the search.
Are shipping costs counted?
Yes, in your shopping list: Tapt knows each store's shipping costs and free shipping thresholds. Since these policies change without notice, always check the final amount on the store's site before paying.
Why does a store sometimes come back empty?
Three possibilities: its site was too slow to answer, it was under maintenance, or the card is not in stock. The status dot next to the store's name tells you which of the three.
What do the LOW and MID prices under a card mean?
They are Tapt's reference prices, in Canadian dollars. LOW is what the cheapest stores with the card in stock ask, in Near Mint condition. MID is the middle price, shown only from three stores. These are asking prices in stores, not sales, recalculated every night for each printing. The details are on the page How to read the LOW and MID prices.
How do I get help or contact Tapt?
Open a ticket from the Support page: a question, a bug, a misidentified card or a store to add, and Tapt answers you by email. It is the official channel, there is no phone line or live chat.
Can I get a refund or cancel a purchase?
Tapt sells nothing and takes no payment, so there is nothing to refund or cancel on its side. Refunds, returns and cancellations depend on the store where you place your order: its policy is on its own site, and that is where it gets settled.
How does the Comparator work?
It reads live the product pages of the stores you ticked, pulls out the stock and prices, and shows them from cheapest to most expensive.
How does the Deck Comparator work?
Paste your decklist (“4 Lightning Bolt” or “4x Lightning Bolt (M10)”), tick your stores and start the analysis. Tapt looks up each card one by one and gives you the best price found plus an estimated total.
How do I save my favorite stores?
Go to Profile, Favorite stores section: tick the ones you want and click Save. They will be ticked in advance the next time you open the Comparator.
